Member story: Eddie Brand, London Ambulance Service
In these stories, we hear from NHS Spurs members who share their passion for following the club alongside their roles in the NHS and healthcare.
In the first edition of our NHS Spurs Member Spotlight, we meet Eddie Brand, an Emergency Medical Technician with the London Ambulance Service (LAS).
Eddie (pictured middle) works on the very frontline of healthcare - delivering life‑saving care including CPR and defibrillation - and when he’s not saving lives, he’s a devoted Spurs supporter with decades of memories.
Eddie shares why he follows Spurs, how his NHS career once crossed paths with matchdays at White Hart Lane, and why supporting Spurs runs deep through his family’s Head, Heart and Blood.
Why do you support Spurs?
“I started supporting Spurs in the early 70s after seeing the club win the League Cup and the UEFA Cup. I was living in Hackney and Stamford Hill at the time, so getting to matches was easy - and after those early trophies, I was hooked.”
What parallels do you see between your work in healthcare and following the club?
“Working in healthcare - especially on the frontline - can be tough and full of challenges. Come to think of it, it’s just like watching Spurs at the moment!”
Eddie’s humour reflects one of the key pillars of NHS Spurs: Head - staying focused, resilient, and grounded, whether responding to emergencies or enduring the emotional rollercoaster of a North London derby.
Do you have a unique NHS‑related experience you’d be happy for us to share?
“I used to work at the Tottenham Ambulance Station and would occasionally cover some of the games while on duty. It was brilliant - I used to get paid to watch the matches!
“Now I have a season ticket, so the tables have turned. I go to matches with my two sons - and one of them is a Paramedic with LAS as well. Spurs is very much in the Heart and Blood of my family.”
Eddie’s story captures exactly what NHS Spurs is all about - a community bound by its commitment to healthcare and its passion for Tottenham Hotspur FC.
